The product

What exactly is Thread? +

Thread is a monthly subscription box of personalized activities, built specifically for one parent or grandparent. Every box contains six pieces — a custom crossword, a family photo puzzle, recipe cards, postcards, a memory prompt, and a craft kit — all made from photos, names, places, and memories you give us at setup. The format rotates so she never gets the same box twice.

Who is Thread for? +

Adult children who don't live with their parents and want to send something that's actually personal — not flowers, not a generic gift card, not another candle. Most of our customers are sending Thread to a parent in their 70s or 80s who lives alone or semi-alone.

What's in each box? +

Six personalized activities. A larger centerpiece project (custom photo puzzle, hometown crossword, or recipe deck), an activity kit (knitting, coloring, embroidery, sudoku, depending on the month), a few small pieces (pre-stamped postcards addressed to grandkids, a memory prompt card, a printed family update), and one keep-it item that slides into the binder. Total retail value runs $60–$85 per box.

How is it actually personalized? +

At setup you give us your parent's name, where she grew up, her family members' names, a few interests, and access to a photo library (Apple Photos or Google Photos — you pick which albums). We use those inputs to build each month's box. The crossword has her hometown clues. The puzzle is her own family photo. The recipe cards are recipes she'd recognize. Postcards are pre-addressed to your kids.

Does she need an app? +

No. Everything she receives is physical. There's nothing to download, nothing to log into, nothing to figure out. You set up Thread once. She gets a printed box every month.

What if she isn't crafty? +

Most parents aren't, and we built Thread for that. The first box usually leads with a family photo puzzle or memory cards — nothing to assemble, nothing to fail at. The optional craft pieces (knitting, embroidery, etc.) only show up later if you tell us she'd actually want them.

Ordering & setup

How long does setup take? +

About ten minutes. You answer a few questions about who the box is for, connect a photo library if you want, pick a plan, and check out. You can finish the deeper personalization (more photos, hometown details, family names) at your own pace — we email you a link after checkout.

Can I ship Thread to a different address from my billing address? +

Yes — most customers do. You set the recipient's shipping address at checkout. The box arrives at her door; the receipt goes to you.

Can I send Thread as a gift without revealing it's a subscription? +

Yes. You can include a personal first-month note from you and we won't include any pricing, marketing inserts, or 'auto-renewal' language in the box itself. Subsequent boxes look exactly the same — like another piece of mail arriving for her.

When does the first box arrive? +

Within 7–10 days of checkout. We need a few days to print the personalized pieces and hand-assemble the box. After the first one, boxes ship the same week of each month.

What if I don't have many photos of her? +

You don't need many. A handful is enough. You can also send recent photos of grandkids, places she'd recognize, or old family photos you scan with your phone. The personalization comes from variety, not volume.

Pricing & plans

How much does Thread cost? +

$59/month for the monthly plan. $590/year for the annual plan, which works out to two months free and includes the hardcover Thread Book at month 12. Free shipping on both, in every supported region.

What's the difference between monthly and annual? +

Same boxes, same personalization, same everything — except the annual plan saves you $118 and ends the year with a hardcover Thread Book that binds the year's keepsake pieces into a real volume.

Are there any other fees? +

No. Shipping is free, the binder that arrives with box one is included, and the hardcover at month 12 is included on annual plans. No setup fee. No 'personalization fee.'

Do you offer gift cards? +

Not yet, but they're coming. In the meantime, you can subscribe in your name with her as the shipping recipient — same effect.

Subscription & cancellation

Can I cancel? +

Anytime. Cancel from your account in about thirty seconds — no phone call, no retention script. As long as you cancel before the next box ships (we cut off on the 1st of each month), you won't be charged for it.

Can I pause my subscription? +

Yes. Pause for a month, two months, or as long as you want. Paused boxes don't ship and don't charge.

Can I switch from monthly to annual or vice versa? +

Yes, anytime in your account. If you switch from monthly to annual, we credit you the value of months you've already paid for.

What happens if I miss a payment? +

Stripe will retry the card a few times over a week. If it doesn't go through, we email you. We never silently cancel; we just hold the next box until you fix the card.

Refunds & guarantees

What if she doesn't like the first box? +

Full refund within 30 days of delivery. You keep the box — we don't want it back. Email [email protected] with your order number, and the refund goes back to your card within 5–10 business days. The full policy is at /returns.

What if the first box isn't 'wrong' — just not quite her? +

Tell us what missed. We'll rebuild next month's box from what we learned, and that one ships free. Most people choose this over a refund.

What if a box arrives damaged or pieces are missing? +

Photograph it, email us within 14 days, and we re-ship the affected pieces at no charge.

Privacy & photos

What do you do with our family photos? +

We use them to build her boxes — print them onto the puzzle, the postcards, the recipe cards. That's the only thing they're used for. We don't sell them, share them, train AI on them, or use them in ads. Full policy at /privacy.

Can I delete my data later? +

Yes, anytime. From your account or by emailing us. We delete the photos and account data within 30 days of the request.

How do you protect the photos? +

They're stored encrypted at rest. Only the small team that builds boxes can access them, and only to build boxes. We log access internally.

The Thread Book

What is the Thread Book? +

At the end of every twelve months, the keepsake binder that's been collecting one piece from each box comes back to her as a hardcover book — bound, embossed, shipped to her door. It's included on the annual plan and available as a $79 add-on for monthly subscribers.

What if I switch plans mid-year — do I still get the book? +

Yes, as long as you've been subscribed for 12 consecutive months on a plan that includes it (or you add it on). The book covers whatever 12 months you completed.
